Oslo ´24: unicorns and narwhals

Nordic views during the season of palm tree pictures. In fact, alongside the skis, there were narwhals and unicorns as well — not literally, of course. The Natural History Museum displayed a narwhal tusk, while The Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art featured a unicorn installation. This gave me an unusual backdrop to a new piece of knowledge: narwhals were once hunted for their tusks, which were sold as unicorn horns. When doubt arose that unicorns might be nothing more than a myth, several narwhal-hunting villages in Greenland were abandoned.
